Excessive rainfall brought about by the delayed withdrawal of monsoon rains has the greatest impact on India's new cotton, especially in the central region. The rainfall of monsoon rain in 2020 is 109 per cent of the historical long-term average, the third-highest rainfall year since 1990, after 110 per cent in 2019 and 112 per cent in 1994, and the second consecutive year since 1959 that rainfall has exceeded the long-term average.
Affected by excessive rainfall, the yield of Maharashtra, Trengana and Andhra Pradesh may be damaged this year, and the quality may also be problematic, mainly due to excessive moisture and reduced color levels. At present, it is difficult to measure the specific impact, but according to the analysis of the situation in previous years, although the overall impact of weather events is limited, the impact on individual areas will be very significant.
From the current point of view, India's rainfall will tighten the global supply of high-grade cotton, but the exact extent is not clear.
